In the bleak mid-winter I decided to make a series of keys using media from my childhood. I’ve had great fun preparing for this next phase of the 5000 keys project. I was very fortunate to grow up in a house where creativity was valued and making things with one’s hands was really encouraged. I’m not sure if colouring books were my first experience with visual expressions but they certainly were an early staple.
To create the colouring book I sorted through old photos of my keys, ran some of those photos through some drawing and vector apps, and then headed off to a photocopy machine. I’d forgotten about many of the keys – it was great to remember them and look at them in another way. Here are some keys from the first few pages:
