Big and Little: Keys 2015 - 2019

Big and Little: Keys 2015 - 2019

This latest group of upcycled art keys includes some of the biggest keys I’ve ever made and some of the smallest….

Key 2015 is made with a brass calendar, a lock, jewellery bits, and a long piece of metal from that antique adding machine. I spent a long time adding resin to this key to get it to smoothly cover the metal. I am particularly happy with the picture of the One Side (which captures the many layers of resin).

Key 2016 is made with some really large recording discs from the CTV tv station in Saskatoon. I have no idea how those discs worked but their technology became redundant and they ended up at Rose’s auction (where I got them many years ago and am just getting around to using them now). The springs on the end of this key are from that antique adding machine. I used metallic colour pigment in the resin on the other side. This was my first attempt at adding the pigment. At first I wasn’t sure about it but now I kind of like it.

Key 2017 is made from three found hoop earrings, a string of rhinestones, two clip on earring backs, a rhinestone bead, a broken bead, and a piece of metal from the road.

Key 2018 is made from an old nail, a sewing machine part, and bits of a necklace.

Key 2019 is made from a tap, beads, an earring, a tire clip, a heart charm, a battery cover, and a piece of metal that might have been part of a light fixture.
